U20s ahead of "battle for bragging rights" in Poland

Things are moving quickly for the Germany U20s in the international round-robin tournament. After a successful start to this season’s international fixtures with a 2-0 win in Italy on Friday, Frank Wormuth’s team will today play Poland in Wloclawek (17:00 CEST).

“Poland have an excellent youth set-up,” says Wormuth ahead of the game against the neighbours. “The ground is always full there so it will be a real battle for bragging rights.” Germany’s coach will completely change his starting XI and give the rest of the squad a chance against last year’s winner of the four-team tournament. “I’m glad that we have another game so the other players can test themselves and correct the mistakes from the first game,” says Wormuth.

With the opening win in Tuscany, Germany are on track to replicate the 2013/14 season when they won the international round-robin tournament with ten points. After six games last year, Germany were on five points (one win, two draws and three defeats) in third place behind Poland and Italy but already of Switzerland.

The international round-robin tournament consists of a total of six games for each side (three home, three away) and runs until the end of the 2015/16 season. Between 7th and 13th October Germany U20s are the hosts of the Mercedes Benz Elite Cup against England, the Netherlands and Turkey.
