U19s beat France with late comeback

Germany’s U19s wrapped up the Four Nations Tournament with a third win in three games, overcoming a 2-1 deficit to beat France 3-2. Before kick-off, both sides took part in a minute of silence following last Friday’s terror attacks in Paris.

The French side took the lead through OSC Lille’s Romain Jamrozin after just nine minutes at the Waldstadion, with 3300 fans in attendance. The lead didn’t last long, however, as Mainz’s Suat Serdar bagged the equaliser just minutes later. France struck again in the second half, with Arsenal’s Ismael Bennacer scoring in the 59th minute. Just as it looked like France were headed for victory, Schalke 04’s Phil Neumann scored a late equaliser in the 88th minute, before Arianit Ferati from VfB Stuttgart found the winner just minutes later.

The U19s had already confirmed their status as tournament winners, having won their opening two fixtures against Sweden (3-0) and Serbia (1-0).

Sorg fielded an almost completely new side, in order to give all 33 players a chance to showcase their skills during the tournament.
