The German Football Association (DFB) revealed the venues for the 2016 UEFA European Under-19 Championship, which will take place in Baden-Württemberg between 11th and 24th July. Germany will contest the opening game in the Stuttgart Arena. The tournament is made up of two groups of four teams including the hosts and the seven nations who will qualify during the 2015/2016 season.
The other venues in Group A, in which Germany are seeded as hosts, are the Stadion auf der Waldau in Stuttgart, the Stadion an der Kreuzeiche in Reutlingen and the Großaspach Arena in Aspach. The matches in Group B will be held in Aalen, Heidenheim and Ulm. Of the eight participating nations, only the top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals in Mannheim on 21st July 2016. The final will take place at 18:00 CEST on Sunday 24th July 2016 in the Rhein-Neckar-Arena in Sinsheim.
Flick: "We expect top-quality stadiums"
DFB sporting director Hansi Flick is the official ambassador for the tournament. “We will once again show that Germany is a great host of a large football tournament," said Flick. “We expect top-quality stadiums and I am sure that the people of Baden-Württemberg will provide a unique setting for the European Under-19 Championship."
The DFB’s general secretary Helmut Sandrock: “We are looking forward to being able to host this tournament together with UEFA. We don’t only want to create perfect conditions but we also want to use the tournament to generate excitement in football amongst children and teenagers."
