U17s to face Slovenia, Belgium and the Czech Republic in Euros

The German U17s national team will face Slovenia, Belgium and the Czech Republic in Group B of the summer’s European Championships in Bulgaria, following the draw in Pomorie, Bulgaria. Christian Wück’s team were dominant in the qualifiers and sealed their ticket to the finals early as group winners. There are 16 teams taking part in the tournament between 6th-22nd May and the German side are among the strong favourites to win the competition, not least because of their solid performances in the qualifying round.

“We are playing against teams that we haven’t faced yet with this age group”, said head coach Christian Wück, though he knows his opponents well. “Slovenia have the Elite round’s top scorer. They are definitely a team that we need to watch carefully. Czech Republic beat Scotland, who knocked us out last year and Belgium won their group ahead of the Netherlands. We will have to give 100% from the first game, both physically and mentally. We will now start to analyse video material of the different sides and as coaches we will begin to prepare for the European Championships.”

The Groups:

Group A: Bulgaria (hosts), Croatia, Spain, Austria
Group B: Czech Republic, Slovenia, Belgium, Germany
Group C: Greece, Russia, Scotland, France
Group D: Ireland, Netherlands, Italy, England
