U17s beaten by Iran in second World Cup group game

Germany under-17s were handed a heavy defeat at the hands of Iran in their second World Cup group game on Tuesday evening.

The Middle East side ran out 4-0 winners against Christian Wück’s junior team in the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa.

Younes Delfi scored twice before half-time then Allahyar Sayyad and Vahid Namdari added to the one-sided scoreline in the second period.

Germany will now face Guinea in Friday’s final group game.

“I want to start by congratulating Iran on a well deserved victory. We did not play well today at all and looked second best in a lot areas and we did not show what we can do,” said Wück.

“We have to now move on from this and make things right against Guinea. That’s the task that we all want to achieve together to reach the next phase,” added the coach.
