U17 World Cup Squad to be led by Passlack

Christian Wück has picked his team for the U19 World Cup in Chile. Of the 21 players selected, 19 have already played with the U17s in the European Championship in May. Goalkeeper Finn Dahmen and Meris Skenderovic, of Mainz and Hoffenheim respectively, have been called up.

"I am happy that we can rely on the players that featured in Bulgaria," said coach Wück. "They were all obvious choices and showed their intent in the Junior Bundesliga after the European Championship."

Fritz-Walter medal winner in squad

The team will be led by captain Felix Passlack of Borussia Dortmund, who won the gold Fritz-Walter medal at the beginning of September. Silver medal winner Niklas Dorsch and bronze medalist Constantin Frommann are all in the squad.

Wück is especially happy about the return of Niklas Dorsch who missed out on the European Championship through an injury he picked up in the first match. "He has recovered well and has worked hard to be able to make this competition. I’m happy for him."

Wück: "We won’t be tourists in Chile"

The U17s will meet Australia in Chile on 18th October, Argentina four days later and then Mexico three days after that. After the European Championship, the expectations are high in the Germany camp. "We are not going as tourists," said Wück. "We want to show that we can still get better and be the best the we can. That means being in the final – or better."

The team will meet in Frankfurt on 9th and fly to Santiago via Sao Paulo. From there they will travel to Chillan to the team hotel and prepare for the group stages.
