U17 World Cup: France secure ticket for knockout stages

Another team have secured their passage to the round of 32. In a high-scoring encounter at the U17 World Cup in Chile, France beat Paraguay 4-3 in their Group F clash to guarantee their place in the first knockout round. Russia remain at the top of Group E after a 1-1 draw against Costa Rica, who are level with them on points.

Bilal Boutobba and Nanitamo Ikone gave France an early lead, but Paraguay drew level through goals from Artuto Aranda and Julio Villalba either side of half time. France immediately went back ahead when Dayotchanculle Upamecano scored, but they were almost instantly pegged back once again by a goal from Christhian Parades at the other end. The winner was notched by Ikone with 20 minutes to spare, whilst the other Group F fixture ended goalless between Syria and New Zealand.

Both games in Group E ended 1-1, with Russia grabbing a late equaliser through Fedor Chavlov against Cost Rica, who had previously taken the lead courtesy of a goal from Sergio Ramirez. In the other fixture, both goals between South Africa and North Korea came from the penalty spot early in the first half.
