U16s and U17s win in La Manga

Two games, two wins. The U16 and U17 sides both emerged victorious from their friendly matches in Spain. They faced the youth sides of local side UCAM Murcia. The U16s played their U17 side, winning 6-1, and the U17s won 4-1 against UCAM’s U18 outfit. Both teams were therefore able to successfully mark the end of their training camps, in front of sporting director Hansi Flick.

Wück unsatisfied despite win

Despite the impressive performance and scoreline, manager Christian Wück was not completely satisfied. "We settled to the level of our opposition, and didn’t do what we had set out to." According to Wück, there were too many mistakes in their passing and tackling game. "We did though have a lot of quality going forward, scoring six goals. It shows that we have a lot of potential going into this year."

Schönweitz: "Exactly what we envisaged"

"We were very strong in the first half. It was exactly what we envisaged in terms of body language, fluidity and the building of attacks," said U17s coach Schönweitz after the match. He made seven changes at the break, as he "wanted to give as many players as possible a chance."

Return to Germany on Friday

"We lacked precision in the second half," rued Schönweitz, despite being content with the overall performance. "Overall we were able to implement a lot of things we have been practising in training, and are therefore pleased." Thursday is a recovery day for the players, before they fly back home on Friday morning.
