U16 women win UEFA tournament in Portugal

Germany women’s U16s finished first in the UEFA Development Tournament. Ulrike Ballweg’s side won the third and final game against France 2-0 in Vila Real de Santo António. The DFB women won the first two matches of the tournament 4-2 against the Netherlands (on penalties) and 5-0 against Scotland on Saturday.

Ulrike Ballweg was pleased with the performance of her team. "That was by far our best performance there at the end. There were difficult conditions, with a strong wind. We deserved to win, did a lot well and didn’t really let them into the game. Our attacking play was textbook," she explained, before summing up the tournament: "The team developed game by game, and you could see big improvement."

Nicole Anyomi of SGS Essen scored the opening goal in the 35th minute, before Freiburg’s Klara Bühl put the game to bed in the 76th minute with her goal.

Last year, the U16 side finished behind Spain and claimed second position.
