New U 21 coach Rainer Adrion led his team to a successful debut as the defending champions started the qualifying round for the European Championship 2011 in Denmark with a 6-0 (5-0) over San Marino.
It was the night of the newbies as two of them were on target. Early in the match Deniz Naki, who played his first match for the U 21, put Germany ahead (4th minute). In the 19th minute skipper Jerome Boateng scored his first goal ever for the reigning European Champion and so did Mats Hummels in the 32nd minute. Just one minute later another first time starter, Julian Schieber, was on target and put the German team 4-0 ahead. Benedikt Höwedes already knows the feeling of scoring for the U 21 side: the Schalke-defender scored his third goal and Germany entered the dressing room with a comfortable 5-0 lead.
After the break Timo Gebhart was sent off with his second booking but Germany kept dictating the match. In the 57th minute it was Schieber who scored his second goal of the night for the final result of 6-0.
