Two million Euro for flood victims from DFB and League

The German football family is joining forces to provide substantial financial aid to clubs affected by the current flooding catastrophe. The German FA (DFB) and the German League Association will each contribute one million Euro in support for the worst-hit clubs. The financial assistance was agreed at a meeting of the DFB Executive Committee in Frankfurt am Main.

"We’re aware these donations can only help to a certain limited extent, but the footballing family wishes to show solidarity with those affected by the floods, and in particular to assist smaller clubs who have suffered extensive damage to club houses and playing facilities, for example," said DFB general secretary Helmut Sandrock. German Football League (DFL) CEO and League Association board member Christian Seifert commented: "It goes without saying that the professional game wishes to support the grass roots quickly and with the minimum of red tape in this emergency situation. We hope we’re able to make a contribution to the reconstruction and rebuilding effort, at least in a few places." Funds will be distributed by the DFB regional associations in the affected areas.

Furthermore, the DFB has also requested assistance from football’s world governing body FIFA and European governing body UEFA. In a letter to DFB president Wolfgang Niersbach, FIFA President Sepp Blatter pledged an immediate €50,000 donation and also advised of a solidarity fund established by FIFA to alleviate the effects of this kind of natural disaster. The FIFA Finance Committee and Executive Committee will discuss the case at their next meetings. In a phone conversation with the DFB President, UEFA general secretary Gianni Infantino announced an immediate donation of €150,000 from the European body.
