Two grudge matches to kick off EURO 2016 preparations

Get excited, Mannschaft fans – two huge fixtures have been announced as part of the national side’s preparations for the 2016 European Championship. On Friday, the presidential board of the DFB, from their conference in Frankfurt-am-Main, confirmed the opponents and venues for two new chapters in two of Die Mannschaft’s most historical rivalries. As preparation for the EUROs in France, Germany will face England on Easter Sunday (26th March 2016) in Berlin, and three days later (29th March) will line up against Italy at the Allianz Arena in Munich.

"These are exactly the games that everybody wants to see. It was important for us that we used the limited time available we have for friendlies to line up against the biggest and the best footballing nations. Berlin and Munich will also offer the best possible venues for such fixtures," said DFB general manager Oliver Bierhoff.

Before the end of the year, Die Mannschaft will contest four further European Championship qualifiers – Germany face Poland in Frankfurt on 4th September and then Scotland in Glasgow on 7th September. The national side is currently sitting in second place of Qualifying Group D, with 13 points, one point behind group leaders Poland.
