Trapp and PSG win again

Kevin Trapp and Paris St. Germain continue to play in a league of their own in France’s top flight. They returned to action with a 2-0 win against SC Bastia. It was Trapp’s eleventh clean sheet from 19 appearances this season.

Brazil international Thiago Silva and fellow countrymen Maxwell netted before the break. PSG remain unbeaten in their Ligue 1 campaign with 17 wins and three draws from 20 games. They are on course for winning the fastest championship in the history of the league. With 54 points to their name, they have a staggering 22 point lead over second placed AS Monaco – who still have a game in hand at least.

FA Cup: Liverpool held by Exeter

Liverpool were taken to a replay by Exeter City after a 2-2 draw in their FA Cup third round tie last night. Coach Jürgen Klopp was forced to field a weakened side due to injuries as Christian Benteke was the only regular in action. Germany international Emre Can was not even included in the squad.

Klopp’s newly formed team required some time to find their rhythm in front of 8,500 spectators in the sold out St. James Park and suffered an early set back with the hosts taking the lead nine minutes into the game. Tom Nichols put the underdogs ahead but Liverpool responded swiftly as 19-year-old Jerome Sinclair equalised just three minutes later. Shortly before half-time Exeter’s Lee Holmes scored direct from a corner to put the hosts back in front.

It largely remained a struggle for the Premier League side and the minnows had chances to extend their lead, however, an individual mistake saw Liverpool’s Bradley Smith convert from close range to make it 2-2. The replay takes place at Anfield later this month.
