"Top fixture": Turbine Potsdam win DFB Indoor Cup

1. FFC Turbine Potsdam defeated FCR 2001 Duisburg in the final of the DFB Indoors Cup in Bonn. Jessica Wich’s header seven seconds before the end of regulation gave Potsdam the 2-1 win.

With 2600 fans, the Hardtberghalle in Bonn was filled to capacity on Saturday, which marked the 15th edition of the women’s indoor championship. For the first time, the Deutsche Fußball-Bund (DFB) had organised the prestigious tournament, which was broadcast live on German televion (WDR).

“Next to the games of our national teams and the DFB-Pokal, the DFB Indoors Cup ranks among the top fixtures of the calendar year”, said DFB President Dr. Theo Zwanziger. Silvia Neid, who had led Germany’s women to the World Cup triumph in China, also followed the action on Saturday.

Inka Grings gave Duisburg an early lead in the final, but Anja Mittag tied the score with 1:36 minutes remaining. Then, Wich’s last second effort decided an exciting and highly entertaining tournament. Last year’s champions 1. FFC Frankfurt had lost to Postdam in the semifinal 3-1, while Duisburg had eliminated Essen 4-3 in the other final.
