Toni Kroos: "I’m sure we’ll make it to the EUROs"

World Cup winner Toni Kroos is looking forward to an important autumn period with the Germany national side as they look to secure qualification for next year’s European Championship in France. "We’ve got two difficult games coming up in September, and because we dropped a few points here and there during the campaign, we’re under a little more pressure than before," said the Real Madrid midfielder ahead of his side’s involvement in the Audi Cup in Munich. "But I’m sure we’ll get the points we need and make it to the EUROs."

Two tough games – against Poland in Frankfurt/Main on 4th September and against Scotland in Glasgow on 7th September – lie in wait for Joachim Löw’s side, who currently sit second in Qualifying Group D. Group leaders Poland are one point ahead of Die Mannschaft, and Scotland lie just two points behind the current World Champions. After the two games next month, just two more qualifying matches remain – another double-header, featuring a clash with Ireland in Dublin on 8th October and one final home match in Leipzig against Georgia three days later.

Kroos is currently in Munich, finishing up preparations for the new La Liga season, which for him and his Real Madrid teammates begins against newly-promoted Sporting Gijón on 23rd August. "We’ll be ready," said the 25-year-old. After losing out on last season’s title to their arch-rivals FC Barcelona, Real and their new coach Rafael Benítez are going all out for the main prize this season. "He was brought in to win us the league," said Kroos about his new boss.
