Thomas Müller: "It could have been more"

FC Bayern München qualified for the last 16 of the DFB Cup thanks to a 3-1 victory away to Hamburger SV. DFB.de spoke to Thomas Müller after the match about the cup tie and Saturday’s match against Borussia Dortmund.

DFB.de: Mr Müller, are you happy with the Cup victory?

Müller: Obviously we’re delighted to be in the last 16. We did what was expected. I think we played aggressively and adventurously against Hamburg. We could have scored more goals. But, overall it was a good performance.

DFB.de: How difficult did Hamburg make it for you?

Müller: We went ahead after only six minutes, which made it difficult for HSV. But, they were aggressive and played well. They would have caused a lot of problems for a weaker side. We have world class players so could deal with their threat, but they made life difficult for us. Drobny performed well in goal for them, which is why we only scored three goals.

DFB.de: On Saturday you face Borussia Dortmund. How big a game is it?

Müller: The table would suggest otherwise, but this will be a huge game. Dortmund are always incredibly tough opposition. Maybe they’ll find it easier to play against us than other teams. They know that they need to progress up the table.

DFB.de: How do you expect them to play on Saturday?

Müller: I think they’ll defend strongly and then use their dangerous countering ability to attack us. It’s important that we play our own game and make the most of the chances we create. If we do that, we have a chance of winning. Dortmund are always dangerous, so we need to be cautious.

DFB.de: Do you think it will be a tactical game?

Müller: I certainly don’t think we’ll be 5-0 up at the break! We know Dortmund very well and vice versa. In recent years the games between us have been tight and I don’t expect things to change. If we are clinical and don’t let them counter, we have every chance of winning.

DFB.de: Arjen Robben will be back in the squad and Bastian Schweinsteiger is training again too. Who will be able to stop Bayern?

Müller: The game against Gladbach was incredibly tight. In a game of football anything can happen regardless of the teams on show. We are currently in good form and hope to continue that way.
