Thomas Müller: "A lucky but deserved victory"

Two late goals ensured that record champions FC Bayern München claimed a 2-0 victory over Bavarian neighbours Ingolstadt on Saturday afternoon. World Cup winner Thomas Müller spoke to DFB.de after the final whistle about that match, the upcoming Champions League games against Arsenal and the current situation in the Bundesliga.

Question: Mr. Müller, what are your thoughts on your side’s offensive performance against Ingolstadt?

Thomas Müller: It was all a bit chaotic because they made life tough for us. Additionally, the pitch wasn’t great. There were a few divots, which made intricate passing difficult. The ball was bouncing about all over the place.

Question: Are you happy with the overall performance?

Müller: We did well, but obviously it’s always a bit lucky if you score goals so late on. However, I would say that we deserved to win the game.

Question: What does the manner of this this victory say ahead of the games against Arsenal?

Müller: It shows that we always have a chance. We weren’t able to play our game and had operate a bit more like Ingolstadt did, however, despite this we dug in, worked hard and took our chances at the right moments. We had a couple of chances before the break, but they also had a big one, however, we got lucky then. Away from that we were relatively comfortable. Obviously, we would have preferred to have scored earlier on though. We worked hard and got rewarded

Question: What are your thoughts on the effort you had shortly after the break.

Müller: It sort of sums up my luck in front of goal currently, I guess. I need to have another look at it to see whether I could have got a better shot off. I wasn’t quite sure how tight the angle was but I had a go anyway.

Question: Results elsewhere seemed to go your way too this weekend...

Müller: It was certainly a good weekend for us, but you don’t need to be an expert to notice that. We’re only concentrating on ourselves and will continue to look forward.
