The road to EURO qualification

Twelve days before Christmas Eve, 24 teams will turn their attention to the French capital. In the coming summer, France will host the European Championship and on 12th December this year the draw will take place to determine who plays who in which groups, as well as times and locations. The World Cup winners will watch the draw in Paris with great interest.

Die Mannschaft have all but secured their qualification for the Euros and the journey to France 2016 has been planned out. DFB.de guides you along the World Cup winners’ European road to Paris.

Germany vs. Poland, Frankfurt am Main, 4th September

2nd versus 1st, World Champions vs. group leaders. There are plenty of headlines surrounding Die Mannschaft’s game against Poland, but only one thing separates the teams: A single point. The Poles have earned 14 points from six games, with Germany taking 13. So when the teams go head-to-head on 4th September (20:45 CEST) in Frankfurt’s Commerzbank-Arena for 90 minutes of football, there will be a lot to play for, namely a place at the top of the group and a huge step towards France 2016. We can therefore expect a serious effort from both sides. Germany manager Joachim Löw will announce the squad for this fixture on Friday, 28th August and Die Mannschaft will meet up three days later on 31st August. Many of the players will still be fresh from Bundesliga action. Bayern vs. Bayer 04 and Wolfsburg vs. Schalke are just two of the encounters involving Germany internationals on the Bundesliga fixture list for the week before the international break. Then, after just four days’ preparation in Frankfurt, the focus will be on taking all three points against Poland.

Scotland vs. Germany, Glasgow, 7th September

After the game against Poland, the World Cup winners will remain in Germany for a short while. The team will regroup in Frankfurt on Saturday, and then only on Sunday morning will they jet off to the UK on a private Lufthansa jet and fly 900 miles over the North Sea to Glasgow. The airport destination is convenient for the DFB-Team, who only one day later face the Scotland national team in the country's largest city. More crucial points for Germany’s ticket to France are up for grabs in this fixture on 7th September (20:45 CEST). A return flight to Frankfurt awaits the Germany squad in the afternoon of 8th September before they return to their clubs.

Republic of Ireland vs. Germany, Dublin, 8th October

Only 29 days later, Frankfurt is yet again on the cards ahead of the European qualifier against Ireland. Die Mannschaft assembles again on 4th October for three days of training in Frankfurt before captain Bastian Schweinsteiger & Co. make their way to Dublin on the morning of 7th October. In the evening, they will have their final training session and on the following day, 8th October (20:45 CEST), they will face the Irish.

Germany vs. Georgia, Leipzig, 11th October

The day after that, the World Champions will fly back to Germany. The squad will touch down in Leipzig late in the afternoon. The following days’ schedule in short: Drive to the hotel, arrive, check in, rest, sleep, wake up, train, sleep, play, win and – if not already achieved – qualify. When? On 11th October (20:45 CEST). Where? In the Leipziger Stadion. Against who? Georgia. The match against manager Kachaber Zchadadse’s side should conclude Germany’s qualification for the Euros.

France vs. Germany, Paris, 13th November

Provided everything doesn’t go horribly wrong, the World Cup winners will be able to challenge for the European Championship title in France this coming summer. So it can’t hurt, to have a look round in the host country’s back yard, and this is on the agenda for Die Mannschaft, who will play in an international friendly on 13th November in Paris, where the Euro 2016 final will be held. It's an encounter that could well be repeated in the showpiece game next summer too, as Germany test themselves against the hosts. Die Mannschaft vs. the Equipe Tricolore is a game that also warrants some serious preparation. Coach of the Year Löw will summon his players to Munich on 9th November in the run-up to this game. Three days later they head to Paris, and then it’s back to Germany on 15th November.

Germany vs. Netherlands, Hannover, 17th November

The year 2015 will end with a classic encounter between neighbours and old acquaintances. A Dutch defeat in Lower Saxony would round 2015 off nicely. On the afternoon of 15th November, the World Champions will arrive in Hannover. Two days and two training sessions later, it will be time for the final game of the year as Die Mannschaft take on the Elftal.
