Ter Stegen and Barca lose shootout to Chelsea

Germany international goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen suffered a defeat with Champions League winners Barcelona in the final game of their pre-season tour to the USA. The 23-year-old lost a penalty shootout 4-2 with the Catalans in the International Champions Cup against English champions Chelsea.

Ter Stegen’s Belgian counterpart saved a penalty from World and European Champion Gerard Piqué in front of 78,914 fans at FedExField, the home of NFL team the Washington Redskins. Earlier in the game, another Belgian Eden Hazard put the Blues into the lead before Uruguayan Luis Suárez and Spaniard Sandro Ramirez turned the tables. English defender Gary Cahill saved José Mourinho’s team five minutes from the end and took the game to a shootout.

During the tour to the US, the Spanish champions beat LA Galaxy 2-1 and then suffered a 3-1 defeat to Manchester United and Die Mannschaft’s captain Bastian Schweinsteiger.
