Tah returns to Leverkusen due to injury

Jonathan Tah has left the U21 team’s camp in Harsewinkel due to injury. The 21-year-old defender picked up the injury during the 2-1 international friendly loss against Hungary in Paderborn on Friday. He will return to his club Bayer 04 Leverkusen for treatment. A replacement will not be called up and the squad for the European qualifier against Kosovo on Tuesday (19:00 CEST) will therefore consist of 21 players.

Coach Stefan Kuntz said: “It is more a precautionary measure than anything else. We came to the decision to allow him to go back to be treated by his club after discussions with Jonathan, our doctors and Bayer Leverkusen. Of course it’s a shame that one of our leading players can’t be there for the start of our qualification campaign but we have lots of players in the squad capable of stepping up to the plate at centre-back in Jonathan’s absence.”
