Sweden and Germany tie 0-0

Germany and Sweden drew 0-0 in Gothenburg on Wednesday in an international friendly where both coaches took the opportunity to experiment with personnel and tactics.

Neither side managed a shot on target until the 36th minute, when Bayern Munich's Bastian Schweinsteiger unleashed a drive from distance that Sweden goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson parried away.

The home side's only chance of note in the first half came after good work down the left by Christian Wilhelmsson, only for Ola Toivonen to miscue badly from close range.

Real Madrid's Sami Khedira almost gave the Germans the lead on the stroke of halftime as he latched on to a looping ball but he stuck his lob over the crossbar.

Germany substitute Toni Kroos forced another fine save from Isaksson in the second half while Lyon's Kim Kallstrom volleyed Sweden's best chance of the second half wide.

Kallstrom was later replaced as coach Erik Hamren handed a debut to Helsingborg's Alexander Gerndt, but the Swedish league's top scorer had little time to make an impression.
