Suspended disqualification and fine for Russia

The disciplinary commission at UEFA have shown the Russian Football Association (RFS) the yellow card, after the riotous scenes in their game against England last Saturday. From now on, Russia will be on probation until the end of the tournament (10th July). If the Russian fans should show similar behaviour inside any stadium, the Russia national team will be thrown out of the tournament.

This order from UEFA is valid until the end of the championship. Furthermore, the RFS, who can still appeal the action from UEFA’s disciplinary commission, have to pay a fine of 150,000 Euros.

Immediately after the final whistle of their 1-1 draw with England at the Stade Velodrome on Saturday, Russian hooligans charged towards an English block and attacked the opposition fans. Several people, including children, fled away from the stands. Prior to the match, there had been terrible scenes of violence in Marseille, in which 35 people were injured and one England fan was left in a critical condition.
