German U20 international Boubacar Barry scored the opener for the hosts but Bayern promptly responded with Arturo Vidal’s fabulous strike from range. Jerome Boateng was sent off in the second half and Karlsruhe were awarded a penalty, which Dimitrij Nazarov put away to secure the 2-1 win.
Borussia Mönchengladbach also suffered defeat one week before they restart their Bundesliga campaign against Borussia Dortmund, losing 5-2 to 2. Bundesliga side VfL Bochum. Ibrahima Traoré and Lars Stindl were on target for André Schubert’s team, but a second half hat trick from Simon Terodde saw Bochum complete an impressive comeback to secure the victory.
