Surprising friendly defeat for FC Bayern

Preparations for the second half of the season are in full swing with Bundesliga teams attending training camps and taking part in friendlies. DFB.de sums up the action involving German teams.

FC Bayern München suffered a surprising 2-1 friendly defeat to second division side Karlsruher SC. German U20 international Boubacar Barry scored the opener for the hosts but Bayern promptly responded with Arturo Vidal’s fabulous strike from range. Jerome Boateng was sent off in the second half and Karlsruhe were awarded a penalty, which Dimitrij Nazarov put away to secure the 2-1 win.

Borussia Mönchengladbach also suffered defeat one week before they restart their Bundesliga campaign against Borussia Dortmund, losing 5-2 to 2. Bundesliga side VfL Bochum. Ibrahima Traoré and Lars Stindl were on target for André Schubert’s team, but a second half hat trick from Simon Terodde saw Bochum complete an impressive comeback to secure the victory.

Another Bundesliga side lost a friendly to a second division team in Darmstadt 98, who suffered a 1-0 loss against 1. FC Nürnberg. Former Darmstadt player Hanno Behrens scored the only goal of the match in the opening minute of the game.

The other newly promoted team FC Ingolstadt were held to a 0-0 draw by 2. Bundesliga outfit 1. FC Kaiserslautern. New record signing Dario Lazcano made his debut for Ingolstadt with the Paraguayan striker being brought on in the second half, but he was unable to provide his team with the winning goal.

1. FSV Mainz 05 recorded a 1-0 victory over 1. FC Köln in their final friendly before the Bundesliga season resumes next weekend. Danny Latza scored the only goal of the match at the Mainz training ground, with the game held behind closed doors. Former Germany U21 international Timo Horn kept Köln in the game with several quality saves. Germany international Jonas Hector played 60 minutes and put in a solid performance, but it was not enough to avoid defeat.

Hertha BSC won the last friendly of their training camp in Belek, securing 1-0 win over Swiss Super League side FC Vaduz. Vedad Ibisevic was on target for the Bundesliga outfit, who dominated for the entire 90 minutes but spurned a number of clear opportunities to record a higher win.
