Christoph Daum has made use of a contractual option and will leave his Bundesliga club 1. FC Köln. Michael Meier, the team’s manager, said: "There were no indications, that Christoph Daum will trigger the option. We were caught by surprise. We regret his decision, but we also have to respect it."
With the announcement, Daum’s second stint in Cologne comes to an abrupt ending. He had first coached the team between 1986 and 1990. In year two of his second tenure, the team was promoted to the Bundesliga in 2008. Now, he has terminated his contract, that originally runs until June 30, 2010.
