Stuttgart win dramatic encounter with HSV

VfB Stuttgart's good start to the second half of the season continued as they beat Hamburger SV 2-1 in Saturday's late Bundesliga game. 46,700 spectators in Stuttgart’s Mercedes-Benz-Arena witnessed a spectacular forward charge by their team throughout this match, but for a long time they lacked the clinical touch and HSV keeper René Adler kept frustrating the hosts with several splendid saves. Stuttgart’s attacking efforts started after roughly 15 minutes and from there on they produced several clear-cut chances until half time which they all left unused.

The second half continued as the first had ended, with Stuttgart pushing for the opener. They finally broke the deadlock after 68 minutes, when Didavi’s header settled in the back of the net. Encouraged by their lead, Stuttgart looked for a second goal only to see Hamburg level the scores with their first real opportunity, as Artjoms Rudnevs finished off a well-executed counterattack after 75 minutes. The closing stages of the game were a constant back and forth, with both teams creating chances but in the end it was substitute and new signing Artem Kravets who scored the winning goal for Stuttgart.
