Stuttgart and Gladbach record first wins of the season

Borussia Mönchengladbach and VfB Stuttgart have returned to winning ways on matchday 6, with both teams earning their first victories of the season. The Foals recorded a 4-2 home win over Augsburg, while Stuttgart landed a 3-1 victory at Hannover. Hoffenheim meanwhile held previous table toppers Borussia Dortmund to a 1-1 draw with BVB dropping their first points of the season after winning all of their previous eleven competitive matches. Bayer Leverkusen claimed a 1-0 win at home over FSV Mainz 05 and Schalke 04 secured all three points at home, winning 2-0 against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Gladbach and their manager Lucien Favre had gone separate ways prior to this matchday after suffering five straight league defeats. Caretaker André Schubert witnessed his side get off to a fantastic start as Fabian Johnson scored the opener just five minutes into the game. The early lead seemed to boost Gladbach's confidence as they added three more goals within the opening 20 minutes. Granit Xhaka, Lars Stindl and Mahmoud Dahoud fired the Foals into a 4-0 lead as Augsburg were overrun in the first half. Two converted penalties from Paul Verhaegh in the second half were not enough for Augsburg to complete the comeback.

Werner on target for Stuttgart

In a game that featured two sides yet to record a win this season, Hannover got off to a better start against Stuttgart and took the lead after 14 minutes through Kenan Karaman. But the visitors responded immediately with goals from Christian Gentner and Germany U21 international Timo Werner just four minutes after the opener. A late strike from Alexandru Maxim in stoppage time of the second half sealed the first win for VfB.

Hoffenheim, also yet to secure a victory this season, took the lead through Germany international Sebastian Rudy shortly before half time against Borussia Dortmund. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's seventh goal of the season prevented BVB from their first defeat but they did yield the top spot in the standings to FC Bayern, and in doing so ended their run of eleven straight victories in all competitions this campaign.

Leverkusen and Schalke secure home wins

Bayer 04 Leverkusen were coming off three straight defeats in the league but ended their downward spiral thanks to Hakan Calhanoglu, who deflected a shot from Chicharito in the second half to secure a 1-0 win over FSV Mainz 05.

FC Schalke 04 also recorded a home victory, as second half goals from Joel Matip and Germany U21 international Leroy Sané handed them a 2-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt. With 13 points from six games, S04 now rank third behind Dortmund and Bayern.
