Streichsbier calls up Emmanuel Iyoha before the World Cup playoff

U19s head coach Guido Streichsbier has called up Emmanuel Iyoha (Fortuna Düsseldorf) in place of the ill Fabian Resse (Schalke 04), just hours before the decisive match of the U19s EUROs. Germany face the Netherlands this evening in Sandhausen (19:00 CEST). The winner of the playoff match will finish in fifth place at the European Championship, and get a spot in the 2017 U20s World Cup in South Korea.

Due to the short notice, Iyoha was chosen. The Düsseldorfer was not among the 24 players who took part in the training camp in Schladming (28th June to 5th July), but he can travel to meet up with the team quickly from Fortuna’s training camp. "We are very grateful to Fortuna Düsseldorf for letting Emmanuel join up with us on such short notice. Because of the new rules which allow a fourth substitution to be made in extra-time, it is important that we have enough players in each position on the bench”, explained Streichsbier.

This interesting new fourth substitution rule awaits the teams in the knockout round of the U19s EUROs. UEFA has introduced the rule to stop players from putting a strain on their bodies during these long matches.
