The Bundesliga relegation fight will be decided on the final day of the season. Matchday 33 saw strugglers VfB Stuttgart, Hannover 96 and SC Freiburg all picked up important wins in the quest for survival.

SC Paderborn dropped to the bottom of the table thanks to a defeat in Gelsenkirchen and they are unlikely to be able to finish higher than 16th. The situation also got worse for Hamburger SV who now find themselves in 17th.

Wolfsburg and Gladbach reach the Champions League

Automatic qualification for the Champions League has now been confirmed for VfL Wolfsburg and Borussia Mönchengladbach. Leverkusen beat Hoffenheim but are unable to finish any higher than fourth. In regards to the Europa League, things are looking good for Schalke and Augsburg (46 points) – there’s a mountain to climb fir Dortmund and Bremen (43 points).

Stuttgart beat HSV on matchday 33. Gojko Kacar opened the scoring for Hamburg after eight minutes with his third goal in four games but goals from Christian Gentner (27’) and Martin Harnik (35’) turned the game around.

Stindl’s brace gives Hannover victory

Hannover took the lead after 24 minutes through Lars Stindl but Europa League hopefuls Augsburg levelled after 30 minutes through Paul Verhaegh. Stindl got his second of the game nine minutes after the break, which proved to be the winner. However, the action continued – Hannover’s Hiroki Sakai and Augsburg duo Verhaegh and Raul Bobadilla were all sent off.

Bayern took the lead after 13 minutes through Bastian Schweinsteiger. The Germany international captained the side today and converted after great play from Mitchell Weiser. Freiburg levelled through Admir Mehmedi’s spectacular goal shortly after the half hour mark. They boosted their hopes of survival through Nils Petersen’s late winner.
