Senior team will train in Ascona to prepare for the European Championship

In preparation for the 2016 European Championship in France, Die Mannschaft will train by the Lago Maggiore in Switzerland. The World Champions will set up camp at the Giardino Hotel in Ascona, Tessin. The DFB-Team had stayed here during the 2008 European Championship in Austria and Switzerland.

The pleasant experiences of back then influenced the decision to have the base at the Giardino Hotel. "We were happy with everything last time. The atmosphere was uniquely brilliant, as was the hospitality," said DFB’s team manager Oliver Bierhoff. "I’m sure it will be no different this time around. We know that Tessin offers the ideal facilities for us to rest up and concentrate entirely on preparing for the Euros to our full potential."

"The presence of the Footballing World Champions is a massive deal"

The World Cup winners coming to Tessin is exciting news in the region. "We take pride in the fact that the DFB have yet again decided to stay with us," said Elia Frapolli, director of tourism for Tessin. "It shows that the facilities at Tessin meet the requirements of one of the best teams in the world." Dr. Luca Pissoglio, the mayor of Ascona is also happy to welcome the Germany national side: "The presence of the footballing World Champions is a massive deal for us. They will improve the image of Ascona in Germany - our most important target nation in terms of tourism."

The Giardino hotel is around a 40 minute drive from Lugano airport. After opening in 1986, it was renovated in 2007 and will celebrate its 30th birthday in the coming year. The complex offers over 54 rooms and 18 suites and the hotel has a five-star rating.

Training ground in close proximity

DFB manager Joachin Löw’s team will train in the Stadio Comunale, home of FC Ascona, located just minutes away from the Giardino hotel.

Next to the stadium, the media centre for the journalists will be set up. The arrival and departure dates have not been decided as of yet. They will be announced on the 12th December, 2015 - the day on which the European Championship draw will determine when Die Mannschaft will play their first game of the competition.
