Second trophy for Barca and ter Stegen: Barcelona beat Bilbao 3-1 in cup final

Germany international Marc-André ter Stegen has won the Spanish Cup with FC Barcelona and taken the second step on the way to a treble. The Catalans prevailed 3-1 against Athletic Bilbao with the former Gladbach man in goal and an impressive display from Lionel Messi. It was Barca’s 27th cup triumph.

A fortnight after winning their 23rd Primera Division title, superstar Messi after a spectacular solo run, Brazilian Neymar and Messi again secured the trophy in front of 99,000 spectators at their home Camp Nou stadium. Inaki Williams, who struck the bar just before the interval, netted Bilbao’s only goal of the game 10 minutes from time.

Barcelona’s third coup could come on Saturday in Berlin, when they take on Italian record champions Juventus, who can also clinch the treble, in the final of the Champions League. Barca won the treble for the first time in 2009 under current Bayern manager Pep Guardiola.
