Third tier versus second – more specifically, SV Wehen Wiesbaden vs FC Erzgebirge Aue in the first round of the German cup. The two clubs will face each other for the eighth time in their respective histories but they have never played one another in the DFB-Pokal.
Until now, Wiesbaden’s Brita Arena has been a problematic place for Aue to play. In three fixtures between 2008 and 2016, the Violets have been unable to win or even score in Wiesbaden.

SV Wehen Wiesbaden haven’t featured in the last two runs of the DFB-Pokal but victory in their regional cup last season ensured the team from Hesse have a place in the national competition. To this point, the club have had entered the cup nine times with their greatest success coming in 2008-9 when SVWW reached the quarter finals. Unfortunately, they were narrowly defeated by Hamburger SV 2-1.
Out of 17 attempts, Aue have always only been able to get as far as the second round, apart from in the 2015-16 season. In that season, Aue reached the quarter finals before failing to beat 1. FC Heidenheim. Last season, Aue gave FC Ingolstadt all they had in the first round before losing on penalties.
