Cheikhou Kouyate opened the scoring for the Hammers in front of 59,996 spectators at the Emirates Stadium shortly before the break. Mauro Zarate doubled the lead for Slaven Bilic’s men after 57 minutes.
Arsenal could have taken the lead early on but Aaron Ramsey’s effort was deflected onto the bar. Özil could have levelled in first half injury time but his effort was blocked inside the area.
