Schweinsteiger scores first goal for Manchester United

Germany skipper Bastian Schweinsteiger scored his first goal for his new club Manchester United, salvaging a point with his equaliser shortly before half time in a 1-1 draw at Leicester City. Manchester City are the new table toppers, followed closely by Leicester, featuring former Germany international Robert Huth, and Manchester United in third after matchday 14.

Leicester striker Jamie Vardy set a new record in the 24th minute when he scored in his eleventh consecutive Premier League game, with an assist from former Bundesliga player Christian Fuchs. The record had previously been held by Ruud van Nistelrooy, who scored in ten consecutive games whilst at Manchester United.

Schweinsteiger nearly added a second goal four minutes after the restart, but Leicester 'keeper Kasper Schmeichel made a fantastic save to keep out his header. Schweinsteiger came close to scoring his first goal last weekend in a 2-1 win against Watford, but his attempt took a deflection off Troy Deeney and was ruled to be an own goal.

Trapp and PSG stay on course

Paris St. Germain and goalkeeper Kevin Trapp continue to impress in their bid to defend the French Ligue 1 title. On matchday 15, the star-studded side, featuring Zlatan Ibrahimovic, claimed a confident 4-1 home win against bottom side ES Troyes AC. It was PSG's 13th win of the season, but Trapp missed out on keeping his ninth clean sheet of the campaign.

Edinson Cavani opened the scoring after 20 minutes, before Ibrahimovic doubled the hosts' lead shortly before the hour mark from the spot. Layvin Kurzawa and substitute Jean-Kevin Augustin scored the remaining goals for PSG, before Thomas Ayasse bagged a consolation goal for Troyes in stoppage time.

Barca win without ter Stegen

FC Barcelona tightened their grip on the top spot in the Primera Division standings, claiming a 4-0 home victory against Real Sociedad San Sebastian with Lionel Messi making his league comeback. Marc-André ter Stegen was an unused substitute.

Brazilian international Neymar scored a double with Luis Suarez and Messi also on target. Barca lead the standings after 13 games with 33 points, followed by Atletico Madrid (29) and arch rivals Real Madrid (24).
