Bastian Schweinsteiger of FC Bayern München returns to the squad of the German national team and is heading towards a very special cornerstone. Should the midfielder play both upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Ireland in Köln on Friday, October 11, and in Sweden on October 15, he would celebrate his 100th cap. Schweinsteiger played his last international match on March 22 in Kazakhstan due to injuries.
Mario Götze is taking his place in the German squad, too, after an injury absence, as does Marcell Jansen, who hadn't been called up for the last matches against Austria and the Faroe Islands.
Joachim Löw nominated 22 players for the last two qualifiers for the World Cup 2014 in Brazil. Due to injuries Mario Gomez (AC Fiorentina), Miroslav Klose (Lazio), Marcel Schmelzer, Ilkay Gündogan (both Borussia Dortmund) and Lukas Podolski (FC Arsenal) had to cancel the trip.
