Schweinsteiger makes his comeback

Bastian Schweinsteiger celebrated making his comeback for Manchester United after 255 days. The last time he played for the English club was on 20th March against Manchester City.

The 32-year old came on for Anthony Martial in the 87th minute of Manchester United’s 4-1 win against West Ham United in the quarter-final of the EFL Cup. Until then, Schweinsteiger had not played at all this season under Jose Mourinho. He was on the bench for the first time during the 1-1 draw against West Ham in the league on Sunday.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic (3’, 90’) and Anthony Martial (48’, 62’) both scored twice against West Ham last night. Mourinho received a ban from the FA just a few hours before kick-off for kicking a water bottle during the match on Sunday and being sent to the stands. Mourinho has to pay a fine of around 18,700 euros for his actions.

Arsenal rest Özil and Mustafi

Arsenal FC rested most of their key players last night and were knocked out in the quarter-final. The Champions League side lost 2-0 to Southampton FC yesterday evening. Arsene Wenger decided to rest certain key players, like Mesut Özil and Shkodran Mustafi who didn’t feature in the squad.

Liverpool FC won 2-0 on Tuesday evening against Leeds United to reach the semi-finals. Hull City also secured their place in the semi-finals after beating Newcastle United 4-2 on penalties. In January, Manchester United will face Hull City in the semi-finals, whilst Liverpool FC will face Southampton. The final will take place at Wembley on 26th February.
