Schweinsteiger breaks record for most EURO appearances for Germany

Germany captain Bastian Schweinsteiger wrote history when he came off the bench during Die Mannschaft’s 1-0 win over Northern Ireland in their third group match of EURO 2016 at the Parc des Princes. The 31-year-old made his 15th appearance at the EUROs, one more than former DFB-Team captain Philipp Lahm (14), meaning he has now made the most appearances for Germany at European Championships.

Schweinsteiger, who doubled Germany’s lead in the 90th minute in their 2-0 win over Ukraine in the first group match of EURO 2016, came on for Sami Khedira in the 69th minute against Northern Ireland. The Germany captain didn’t make an appearance in the 0-0 draw with Poland in Die Mannschaft’s second match of the tournament.
