Schweinsteiger and Manchester United to take on Can and Liverpool today

The weekend is upon us and league football returns. Germany internationals are not only in action in the Bundesliga this weekend, but also abroad. DFB.de takes a look at domestic action across the continent to find out who is playing when.

England

Manchester City managed a convincing start to the Premier League season. Last year's second-placed team had a perfect start with four wins in as many games. With twelve points and an impressive goal tally of 10-0, they sit atop the standings. A trio of DFB team players are currently seven points adrift. Manchester United (Bastian Schweinsteiger), Arsenal (Mesut Özil) and Liverpool FC (Emre Can) currently occupy places five through seven respectively and are all level on points.

Mesut Özil and Arsenal take on Stoke City on Saturday (16:00 CEST), while the highlight in terms of DFB players being later on Saturday, as Manchester United host Liverpool FC (18:00 CEST). Skipper Bastian Schweinsteiger will face debutant Emre Can.

Spain

It's matchday 3 in the Primera Division this weekend with the standings still showing a somewhat unusual picture. SD Eibar and Celta Vigo are joint leaders with six points. This matchday will have a "El Classico"-feel to it, as the cities of Barcelona and Madrid face each other in two separate games. First, Toni Kroos and Real Madrid visit Barcelona to take on Espanyol on Saturday (16:00 CEST), while Marc André ter Stegen and FC Barcelona are set to play Atletico in Madrid later on in the evening (20:30 CEST). Cladio Bravo suffered a calf injury, which could give Barca's regular Cup and Champions League keeper ter Stegen his first national league appearance for the Catalans.

Shkodran Mustafi, the third DFB team player currently active in the Primera Division, plays Gijon with FC Valencia on Saturday (18:15 CEST), looking to secure their first win of the season.

Italy

Sami Khedira is still looking to make his first appearance for Juventus Turin and Juve are yet to record a win this Serie A season, having suffered defeats against Udinese and at AS Roma. On matchday 3 Juve will take on current table-toppers Chievo Verona on Saturday (20:45 CEST).

Sami Khedira was with the German squad last week in Frankfurt and received treatment from the medical staff after tearing a muscle fibre in a friendly match with Olympique Marseille. The 28-year-old is looking to return to the pitch as soon as possible.

Turkey

The Turkish SüperLig has seen three matchdays so far this season and a tight race at the top of the table is already in progress. Fenerbahce Istanbul and Trabzonspor both have seven points so far and occupy first and second place respectively. Three teams Besiktas Istanbul, Kasimpasa Istanbul and Antalyaspor are on six points each.

Galatasaray Istanbul and Lukas Podolski did not get off to an ideal start, recording a win, a draw and a defeat on the opening three matchdays with the German World Champion scoring one goal in the process. Galatasaray are currently in tenth place and will look to improve their position as they take on bottom-side Mersin İdmanyurdu at home in Istanbul on Saturday evening (19:15 CEST).
