Schönweitz nominates squad for U17 European Championships

Excitement is growing ahead of the European Championships in Azerbaijan. The Germany U17s will take part in the tournament from the 5th to 21st May, and will come up against the best teams the continent has to offer. Manager Meikel Schönweitz has nominated 18 players in total, and it is the same squad that has just successfully navigated European qualification. The only change sees Davide-Jerome Itter (VfL Wolfsburg) return after recovering from injury, with Kilian Senkbeil (RB Leipzig) dropping out.

"We want to keep going from where we left off in qualification," said Schönweitz. In qualification in March, Germany were unbeaten, beating Slovakia 5-1 and the Netherlands 1-0, before drawing with Bulgaria 1-1. "The U17 European Championships is a big challenge and also represents a good opportunity for the boys to take the next step in their development at this high level," said the head coach. "Our aim is always to make sure we live up to our potential. It is with this aim that we approach the EUROs."

Germany U17s face Ukraine in what is their opening match on 5th May (15:00 CEST). Three days later they come up against Bosnia and Herzegovina (17:00 CEST), before taking on Austria on the 11th May (17:15 CEST). All three matches are set to take place in the capital Baku, and there are 16 teams in total.
