Schily, Sengle and Straub named honorary members

During the extraordinary "Bundestag" of the German Football Federation (DFB) at the Congress Center Messe in Frankfurt/Main four outstanding characters were honoured on Friday.

DFB general secretary Horst R. Schmidt named as honoray members: former minister of the interior, Otto Schily, longtime DFB league director and chairman for the league executive committee, Wilfried Straub, as well as Dr. h.c. Alfred Sengle, who was a member of the DFB executive committee for many years. Additionally Dr. Herbert Schmalstieg, mayor of Hannover since 1972, was going honoured for his engagement for football with the "Verdienstspange" of the DFB.

A tribute to Gerhard Mayer-Vorfelder, whose DFB presidency ended at the Bundestag in Frankfurt/Main on Friday, will take place at a latter time, because he still operates on behalf of the DFB at the FIFA and UEFA executive committee.
