Schalke jump to third place - Bremen held by Hannover

Werder Bremen were held to a 0-0 draw at home to midtable Hannover on Sunday to leave them fifth in the Bundesliga, while Hamburg's 3-1 win over Stuttgart on Saturday puts them top of the table. Both striker Claudio Pizarro and midfielder Mesut Oezil had their chances to score for Bremen, but Hannover's defence held firm to share the points.

Later Sunday, Schalke 04 used the chance to get amongst the table's top teams with a win at bottom side 1. FC Köln. German striker Lukas Podolski had his first goal for Cologne, but had to accept the fourth loss in the fifth game.
