Schalke expecting to face a strong Nürnberg team

FC Schalke 04 fans have fond memories of the last DFB Cup tie against 1. FC Nürnberg. Schalke beat FC Nürnberg 3-2 in extra time in the quarter-final in January 2011 and they went on to win the competition. Almost six years later, the two teams will face each other in the second round this Wednesday at 20.45 CEST. Both teams are currently in good form after Schalke recovered from their poor start to the season.

Leon Goretzka, Benedikt Höwedes and Co. don’t want to underestimate the opponent. “It won’t be an easy match against FC Nürnberg,” said Goretzka. Höwedes added, “Hopefully now we can reap the rewards of our hard work.” Schalke have won all of their last seven DFB Cup ties against a 2.Bundesliga team without conceding a goal, even in the 2011 final when they won 5-0 against MSV Duisburg.
