Schalke book place in Champions League qualification

Schalke 04 will play the qualifiers for Champions League after securing fourth place by a 2-1 at direct rivals SC Freiburg on Round 34 of the Bundesliga. Eintracht Frankfurt booked a place in next season's Europa League.

On the other end of the table, there was a dramatic turnaround, as Fortuna Düsseldorf dropped from 15th place to direct relegation after losing 0-3 at Hannover 96, while the other contenders both won their matches. FC Augsburg climbed to 15 thanks to a 3-1 against SpVgg Greuther Fürth, 1899 Hoffenheim created the biggest upset by winning 2-1 at Borussia Dortmund thanks to two late penalties and a disallowed Dortmund goal in injury time.
