Sasic: "It was a very good day for me"

DFB.de: There can’t be any doubt that you will reach the final now?

Sasic: We’ve taken a huge step, that’s obvious. We won’t rest on our laurels though, we still have to play the second leg on Saturday. Bröndby will want to put on a good performance. We can’t be too careless when we travel to Denmark.

DFB.de: Would the final in Berlin be a dream come true?

Sasic: Absolutely. It would be magnificent to reach the final in our own country. Many of our fans would come, as well as friends and family. We still need to take the final step. But I am very excited about the game on the 14th May. It will be a perfect way to finish the season.

DFB.de: First you have to finish the season in the Allianz Frauen Bundesliga. On Wednesday you play hosts TSG Hoffenheim, a favourable fixture in the penultimate matchday of the season...

Sasic:... and it will be a completely different and very difficult task. Hoffenheim are having a very good season. They have really established themselves. We need to be fully concentrated and avoid any upset.

DFB.de: What are your aims for the rest of the Allianz-Frauen Bundesliga season?

Sasic: The title is no longer in our hands. We need to hope that FC Bayern slip up, but unfortunately that doesn’t seem likely. Therefore, our focus must be on ensuring that we secure second place, in order to qualify for next season’s Champions League. That’s our main goal and because of that, both our remaining games in the league are cup finals for us.

A phenomenal performance, a phenomenal win, a phenomenal striker – 1. FFC Frankfurt are on the brink of the Champions League final after the 7-0 win against Bröndby IF in the first leg of the semi final. The final is taking place in Berlin on the 14th May. The opponents will be either VfL Wolfsburg or Paris St. Germain. The French side were the surprising victors in the first leg, winning 2-0 away from home.

Celia Sasic had a key role in Frankfurt’s emphatic win, scoring four of the seven goals. The 103 time German international reflects on the game against Bröndby during an interview with DFB.de. But she’s also looking forward: with just two games left, the dramatic run in has truly begun in the Allianz Frauen-Bundesliga and 1. FFC will be back on the pitch on Wednesday (18:30 CEST) at home to TSG Hoffenheim.

DFB.de: Miss Sasic, 7-0 away from home against Bröndby IF. Did this come as a shock for you?

Sasic: Of course. We’re talking about the Champions League final here. We never expected such a convincing result. But we played really well. We were solid in defence and in attack we finally started to make our chances pay.

DFB.de: Or were Bröndby just too weak?

Sasic: There’s a reason they made it as far as the semi final. We dominated from the first minute though and we didn’t give them any opportunities to score. All in all, it was a really, really good performance.

DFB.de: From you especially. Even for you, four goals isn’t something you must be used to.

Sasic: It was a very good day for me too, that’s for sure. The game worked very well for me as a striker. It couldn’t have gone much better for me, but it’s much more important that we as a team could completely dominate. We can build on that for our remaining fixtures.

DFB.de: Champions VfL Wolfsburg come to Frankfurt on the final day of the season…

Sasic: ...and that really could be a very personal finale for us in the Bundesliga. If we win, we will overtake Wolfsburg. That would be a fantastic end to the season and we would guarantee Champions League football next season. That would bring a lot of confidence and security to the team. But in order to have a chance at this, we cannot afford to slip up against Hoffenheim. We mustn’t lose our concentration after this strong performance against Bröndby . We need to stay focussed.
