Sané’s City manage late draw

Wayne Rooney’s first half opener meant Manchester City did not pick up their second of the campaign win in as many games, as Everton left the Etihad with a point. The England striker scored in the 35th minute to put his new side ahead. Despite playing with a man down for much of the match, Raheem Sterling found a late equaliser (83’) for the hosts. Pep Guardiola chose Leroy Sané in his starting XI, but the Germany international was substituted after 69 minutes. Kyle Walker saw red for City on the stroke of half time (44'), however, neither side finished the game with eleven men, as Morgan Schneiderlin was sent off with two minutes left to play.

Thanks to his strike, Rooney (31) became just the second man to reach 200 goals in the Premier League – the other player being Alan Shearer (260 goals). “It's been lonely in this 200 club. Welcome and congratulations,” tweeted Shearer. Rooney also scored against Stoke on matchday one – his first Premier League goal for Everton since his return to the club.
