Sané scores in Schalke’s first Florida Cup match

The preparation for the second half of the season has begun. The training camp is underway and Schalke and Bayer Leverkusen are working hard in Orlando, as they take part in the Florida Cup. But who is playing who? DFB.de have rounded up everything you need to know about the Bundesliga teams in America.

Schalke 04: The Royal Blues have already played their first match of 2016. Last night, they faced American second tier side Fort Lauderdale Strikers and won 2-0. New signings Younes Belhanda and Alessandro Schöpf were substituted on for the second half. Fabian Giefer, who has been out for a long period of time, made his comeback in goal too.

"It was a successful first game in the new year. We won, had a clean sheet and were clearly the better side," said André Breitenreiter afterwards. "We also gave both of our new arrivals a run out." The goals came from Franco Di Santo (29’) and Leroy Sané (57’). Schalke will take on Brazilian runners-up Atlético Mineiro on Thursday morning in their second and final game of the week.

Bayern Leverkusen: Bayer Leverkusen also began 2016 with a win, as they came up against Independiente Santa Fé of Columbia, defeating them 1-0 with a late goal from Stefan Kießling. They will face SC Internacional of Brazil on Wednesday evening in their second game.
