Sané and Gündogan score but Can comes out on top

Germany international Emre Can and his side Liverpool put a stop to table toppers Manchester City’s unbeaten run and moved up into third. The Reds won a thrilling game 4-3 and now have gone 18 games without defeat themselves.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain opened scored the opened before Leroy Sané danced through the Liverpool defence before unleashing a thunderbolt which rifled past Karius in the Liverpool goal to equalise for the Citizens shortly before the break.

After half-time, Jürgen Klopp’s side managed to go up another gear. Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah all scored in a eight minute period and it seemed all was lost for Pep Guardiola’s men. City did not go down without a fight though as Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gündogan scored in the final stages to make it a nervy end for the Reds but they held out for the three points.

Chelsea and Antonio Rüdiger’s Champions League aspirations for next season took a slight dint as they were held at home against a resilient Leicester to a 0-0 draw. In the Premier League’s other game today, Shkodran Mustafi was unable to prevent Arsenal being defeated in Bournemouth this afternoon. Mesut Özil missed the game due to injury.
