Sami Khedira scores on Juve return

World Cup winner Sami Khedira scored on his return to the Juventus starting line-up after serving his suspension for a red card. The 29-year-old, who was sent off in the Turin derby at the beginning of April, found the net in the tenth minute to put his team in the lead against US Palermo. The Italian champions went on to win 4-0.

Frenchman Paul Pogba, Colombian Juan Cuadrado and Simone Padoin added the other goals, meaning the 31-time champions extended their lead at the top to nine points as a result of Napoli's 2-0 defeat on Saturday.

The win was marred by a cruciate ligament rupture to 30-year-old Italy international Claudio Marchisio. It has been confirmed that he will miss EURO 2016 in France this summer.

Rüdiger and Roma draw 3-3 in Bergamo

Germany international Antonio Rüdiger and his AS Roma side suffered a setback in the race for second place in Serie A. The boys from the capital threw away a 2-0 lead to draw 3-3, in doing so failing to capitalise on Napoli's loss on Saturday.

Rüdiger & Co. sit in third place on 65 points, five behind Napoli and four ahead of Inter Milan. Roma and Napoli face each other on Monday 25th April.

Despite their 2-0 win over FC Empoli, Lazio and World Cup winner Miroslav Klose have almost no chance of qualifying for European football next season. Antonio Candreva scored a penalty before Nigerian Ogenyi Onazi added a second before half time in their victory. Klose was brought off in the 71st minute.

Özil and Arsenal draw with Crystal Palace

Arsenal and World Cup winner Mesut Özil missed the chance to exert real pressure on second-placed Tottenham Hotspur as they fell to a 1-1 draw at home against Crystal Palace. The Gunners remain five points behind second place with four games left to play, whilst Tottenham have the chance to extend the gap on Monday night when they travel to Stoke City.

Chile international Alexis Sanchez put his side in the lead shortly before the break, but Yannick Bolasie brought the South Londoners level with just ten minutes left to play. Per Mertesacker was an unused substitute.

Leicester City stumble; Liverpool win

Leicester City faced a setback in their bid to win the Premier League title as they drew 2-2 with West Ham United. The surprise leaders, who feature former Germany international Robert Huth, could see their lead cut to five points if Tottenham Hotspur win tomorrow night.

Three days after their spectacular Europa League win over Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool took the three points against promoted side AFC Bournemouth. Jürgen Klopp's team won 2-1 and sit five points behind Manchester United in fifth place. They were without the injured Emre Can in Bournemouth, but took the lead through former Hoffenheim player Roberto Firmino. Daniel Sturridge added a second before Joshua King pulled a goal back for the hosts late on.

Barca lose to birthday boy Mustafi and Valencia

After being knocked out of the Champions League this week, Barcelona slipped up again in the race for the Spanish title. Despite the 500th career goal of World Footballer of the Year Lionel Messi, Barca were beaten 2-1 on Sunday evening by Valencia CF, featuring World Cup winner and birthday boy Shkodran Mustafi. Barcelona are now only top of the league on goal difference, level on points with Atletico Madrid, who face Bayern München in the semi-final of the Champions League. Toni Kroos and Real Madrid sit one point behind the league leaders after thrashing Getafe 5-1 on Saturday.

Former Schalke midfielder Ivan Rakitic, now of Barcelona, gave Mustafi’s Valencia the lead with an own goal midway through the first half, before Santi Mina doubled their advantage on the stroke of half time. Messi pulled one back with his 23rd league goal of the season, his 450th strike for Barcelona (309 in La Liga) to go with his 50 international goals – but it wasn’t enough to avoid Barcelona from losing their third game on the bounce in all competitions. As expected for a league game, Germany international goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen was an unused substitute.
