National team coach Joachim Löw has recalled 26-year-old Schalke forward Sidney Sam for Germany’s first EURO 2016 qualifier against Scotland in Dortmund on Sunday (live on RTL from 20:45 CET).
Löw made the decision following the withdrawals of Julian Draxler, Mats Hummels and Mesut Özil from Sunday’s matchday squad, although all three players will remain with the national side for treatment. Sami Khedira previously picked up an injury playing for his club, that was diagnosed by national team doctor Dr Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt as a muscle tear before the Real Madrid midfielder returned to Spain.
Sam has five senior international caps, having made his debut on 29 May 2013 in a 4-2 win against Ecuador in Boca Raton during Die Mannschaft’s USA tour. The former Leverkusen player last wore Germany’s colours on 29 November 2013 in the 1-0 win against England at Wembley.
