Rüdiger transfer to AS Roma complete

The transfer of Germany international Antonio Rüdiger (22) from VfB Stuttgart to Italian club AS Roma is complete. "We held constructive discussions with AS Roma, and found a solution which benefits all parties. We wish Toni the best of luck with the rest of his rehabilitation, and much success with his new club," said board representative Robin Dutt.

Rüdiger thanked VfB on twitter, and explained his decision: "The 2016 Euros are coming up next summer, and I have the chance to gather valuable international experience at one of the top clubs in Italy." Rüdiger was on a contract at Stuttgart running until 2017.

Due to the fact AS Roma has to abide by the ‘Financial Fair Play’ rules, Rüdiger will be on loan this season. After a stipulated number of appearances, a purchase agreement with Stuttgart can be agreed upon, and a permanent four-year contract at Rome for the player will come into effect.

Rüdiger suffered a knee injury in mid July, and is expected to be fit again at the beginning of September. He will therefore miss the first games of the Serie A season, which begins this weekend.
