Reus: "The win will give us some reassurance"

After the game it’s to the microphones. Reporters ask the questions, players answer. After every matchday, DFB.de looks for quotes from Germany’s senior and junior internationals. What do the stars have to say about their performances? Today’s line-up: Marco Reus, Benedikt Höwedes, Max Kruse, Christoph Kramer, Thomas Müller and Manuel Neuer

Mainz 05 0-2 Borussia Dortmund

Marco Reus: The 2-0 win was very important because otherwise we would have become tight at the back. Our morale was quite low so it was great that “Miki” scored a goal. We had problems in the build-up play because Mainz had been playing well. We knew that it was going to be a tough game in which we needed to win the second balls. In the end we were very happy with the victory. The win will give us some reassurance. Prior to this game we had three draws and a defeat, which was not what we had anticipated but we stand together as a team and discuss our mistakes. The match against Mainz, in terms of tackling, was the first step in the right direction. Our game will come back to us gradually.

VfL Wolfsburg 4-2 TSG 1899 Hoffenheim

Max Kruse: When you’re 2-0 up at home, you have to try and see the game out. Conceding the equaliser right after the break isn’t exactly ideal. But you could just see how determined the team was to win the game today, not matter what happens. I think we put in a real shift and performed with desire for the whole 90 minutes on the pitch out there today.

Schalke 04 2-1 Hertha BSC

Benedikt Höwedes: We’re happy that we were able to up the pressure in the final ten minutes and force another clear-cut goalscoring opportunity that ultimately won us the game. It doesn’t matter how the three points have come about. Joel Matip started the attack for the winner brilliantly, and then Leroy Sané and Max Meyer rounded it off. You saw how much emotion a goal like that produces. It wasn’t just the fans who went berserk, which was great to see; the entire bench went wild and ran onto the pitch to join the celebrations. Those are the moments where you realise that you’ve really become a unit and that Schalke can really have some fun.

Hamburger SV 0-0 Bayer 04 Leverkusen

Christoph Kramer:I think we actually played really well in the first half, and had a lot of chances. Unfortunately we weren’t able to reward ourselves, meaning we went into the half-time break at 0-0, which made for a rubbish second half. Hamburg committed a lot of fouls. In the second half, when we found ourselves in potentially dangerous positions they often stopped us with a professional foul – Keeping the free kicks a long way from goal. It made everything look quite stupid in the second half, because there was just no flow to the game. Can’t have been a good game to watch

Werder Bremen 0-1 FC Bayern München

Thomas Müller: "We’ve taken three points, record or no record. But it's a nice footnote. It‘ll be hard to match. We were clearly dominant, we had a few chances more, particularly after the break, and there were some controversial incidents in the Bremen box. We'd have liked to score the second goal, but this way it was exciting until the end. It was a decent performance."

Manuel Neuer: Obviously that’s a great stat, especially for Thomas. We all know how important a player he is for us. We need Thomas - and that becomes really clear when we win a game 1-0 thanks to his goal. For the team, this winning streak just emphasises how strongly we’ve started the season. Regardless of the record, we wanted to win this game in Bremen, and we did - despite it being quite difficult to play against their eleven defenders which meant we had to attack with nine players.
